Google launches the option of food delivery orders for restaurants in Spain


Since a few days, all those who manage restaurant pages in Google My Business we are seeing a new option inside your panel named configuration “food orders”. It is not activated at the moment, and it links you to an error page 404, but it is evident that very soon the restaurants will be able to configure and manage your services delivery through this Google page, as it already happens in other countries.

In the United States you can order food directly from Google Search, Google Maps or the Google Assistant. The new service works through partnerships with existing delivery companies such as by Dash, Postmates Y ChowNow, This means that you can now order from any of them without having to download an app or even visit their website..

This new functionality adds a new button in the restaurant file, “Order online” that will appear when searching for a compatible restaurant. From here, you can choose between pick up and deliver home, and select the service through which you want to order the meal. If the restaurant allows it, orders are made in their entirety through the Google interface and Google Pay.

Mobile device users can also use the Google Assistant to order. The Wizard will guide users to place part of the order, but at a certain point, the device will have to be lifted to make decisions by touching the screen.

A typical user would have to perform the following steps to order food through the new service “Order online”:

1.- Find the restaurant

When the user searches for a restaurant in Google or Maps explorer, If the restaurant allows it and has a supplier linked, you will be given the option to order food through the new Google functionality, which would show a button on the restaurant's tab “Order online”.

2.- Choosing the food delivery provider

When the user clicks Order Online, you are redirected to a page where you can select the following provider options:

  • Pick up or delivery
  • Orders as soon as possible or in advance
  • A provider name. The provider is based on personal preferences, the waiting time, fees and minimum order value. Once the user chooses a provider, the user will be able to create their cart.

3.- Add the products to the cart

The user can navigate between the various restaurant menu options, which will be ordered by different categories. When a product is clicked, the user will have the possibility to configure it by choosing between the options that the restaurant allows. In addition to being able to add complements or special instructions, the user can repeat a previous order.

4.- Ordering

Once the user places their order, the cart goes through Google validation, and a page appears where you will have to add the shipping information and configure the Google Pay payment method.

When the user has already entered and confirmed the order information, clicks on “Make an order” to proceed to the online payment and submit the order. After shipment, receives a box showing the order confirmation.

5.- Track the status of your order

Once the order is finalized, the user receives an email from the partner confirming the order. This email contains the order details, tracking and contact information, to use it in case you need support once the order is placed, for example a cancellation.
